Books by and about Clive Staples "Jack" Lewis

A Lewis Quote

"It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest andmost uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare."

I discovered C.S. Lewis in the 1950's when I picked up a copy of "Screwtape Letters" (still a good place to start) at a local bookstore. I was immediately hooked, and began collecting every book I could find by Lewis, and later when I taught Bible college, recommended these books to my students. Upon being introduced to the Chronicles of Narnia, I discovered the whole world of "true myth," and found myself drawn from Narnia to Middle Earth and the imaginary worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien - and then to George MacDonald and Charles Williams. My interest and enthusiasm have never waned, and to this day I pick up one or another of these great books and without packing a bag or even a pocket handkerchief (like Bilbo Baggins in "The Hobbit) take my journey into some distant place! I have visited Mars (Out of the Silent Planet), Venus (Perelandra) and the future of our own sad world (That Hideous Strength). "Jack" Lewis, as he preferred to be called, has changed the face of Christian Apologetics, and set the tone for the most intelligent (to say nothing about intellectual) debate about Christian theology since the early Fathers! No minister is thoroughly educated until he has assimilated at least a smattering of Lewis. He will immeasurably enrich your life!
